Okay, so I decided to remake a Patek Philippe watch. It’s called the Gondolo 7042/100G-010. Sounds fancy, right? It was a real challenge, let me tell you.
First, I started by looking up everything I could find about this watch. I checked out pictures, descriptions, you name it. I even found some info on where to buy the original and the remakes. The real ones are crazy expensive, as you might expect from a brand like Patek Philippe.
Then I got into the details. This watch has a white gold case, and it’s covered in diamonds. The case size is about 31mm by 34.8mm, which I guess is a good size for most wrists. The whole thing is hand-wound, which makes it feel even more special. I read that they made it in 2024, so it’s pretty new.
Making the remake was the hard part. I had to find materials that looked like white gold and diamonds but didn’t cost a fortune. I spent hours searching for the right stuff. I wanted it to look as close to the original as possible, you know?
Crafting the Watch
- I started with the case. I found a material that looked like white gold and shaped it to match the dimensions I found. It wasn’t easy, but I managed.
- Next, the diamonds. I obviously couldn’t use real ones, so I found some good-looking fakes. I stuck them around the bezel and lugs, just like the original. It was pretty delicate work.
- The dial was tricky too. I tried to recreate the pattern and the look of the original as best as I could. It took a lot of patience.
- The movement was the biggest challenge. I’m not a watchmaker, so I used a simple, hand-wound movement I found. It’s not the same as the Patek Philippe one, but it works.
After a lot of work, I finally finished it. It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It looks a lot like the real Gondolo 7042/100G-010, at least to me. I wore it around, and no one could tell it was a remake unless I told them.
So, that’s my story of remaking a Patek Philippe watch. It was a fun project, and I learned a lot. Maybe I’ll try another one someday. Who knows?
