Okay, so I finally did it. I went ahead and remade that Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse 5738R. Man, I’ve been eyeing this watch for so long, and let me tell you, it was a journey to remake it.

First off, I spent days just staring at pictures of the 5738R. That rose gold case, the black dial, it’s just so classy. I knew I had to get every detail right. I started by sketching out the case. It’s not a simple circle, you know? It’s an ellipse, and getting those proportions perfect was a real head-scratcher. I used a ruler, a compass, you name it, all to get that shape down.

Then came the dial. I decided to go with a similar black color, to keep it as close to the original as possible. I tried a few different shades of black but ended up using a simple black paint that I already had, it looked similar so I thought it was the right one. I carefully painted it, making sure there were no smudges or uneven spots. It took a few tries, but I finally got it looking smooth and sleek.

  • Case: Rose gold, hand-drawn and cut from gold foil.
  • Dial: Black, hand-painted with utmost care.
  • Movement: Reused an old quartz movement I had lying around.
  • Strap: Black leather, sourced from an old belt.

Now, the movement. The real 5738R has an ultra-thin self-winding mechanical movement, but I’m not a watchmaker. I just grabbed an old quartz movement from a broken watch I had lying around. It’s not the same, but hey, it tells the time, right?

Putting it all together was like solving a puzzle. I used some strong glue to attach the dial to the movement and then carefully placed it inside the case. The strap was the final touch. I found an old black leather belt and cut it to size. It’s not as fancy as the original, but it does the job.

After hours of work, there it was. My own homemade Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse 5738R. It’s not perfect, of course, but it’s mine. And you know what? It looks pretty darn good on my wrist.

It’s been a fun ride, remaking this beauty. It’s not just about having a fancy watch; it’s about the process, the challenge, and the satisfaction of creating something with your own two hands. Would I do it again? Maybe. But for now, I’m just going to enjoy wearing my new piece.
