Okay, so, I’ve been messing around with watches lately, and I got this idea to try and remake a Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse, specifically the 5738R model. You know, that super classy one you see in those fancy watch stores?

Man, I’ve been wanting to get my hands on a Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse for ages. That watch just screams class. I really like the Golden Ellipse model from the 70’s, But that’s way out of my price range. So, I thought, why not try to make one myself? Not the actual watch movement and stuff, but the look, you know?

First, I started digging around for parts. I needed a case that had that same elliptical shape, kind of like an oval but not quite. I spent hours looking online, checking out those Chinese wholesale sites, and even some forums where people mod their watches. It was tough, man. I did some looking around and I’m able to find the Patek for about $8-9k. Finally, I found a case that was pretty close. It wasn’t perfect, but it had the right vibe.

Then came the dial. The 5738R has this beautiful, simple dial, and I wanted to get as close to that as possible. I looked at a bunch of different options, and eventually, I settled on a plain, dark blue one. I figured I could add the little details later, like the hour markers and the Patek Philippe logo. I found some really thin, gold-colored hands that looked pretty similar to the ones on the real watch.

  • Case: Elliptical shape, rose gold color.
  • Dial: Simple, sunburst blue.
  • Hands: Thin, gold-colored.
  • Strap: Alligator leather, black.

Putting it all together was a bit of a pain. I’m not a watchmaker, so I had to be super careful. I watched a ton of videos online and read through some guides. I managed to get the dial and hands on without messing anything up too badly. I even found a nice, black alligator leather strap that looked pretty close to the original. I just want to remake it by myself.

Result

The final result? It’s not a Patek, obviously. But you know what? It looks pretty darn good. I’ve been wearing it around, and people keep asking me about it. They think it’s some fancy, expensive watch. It’s a fun little project, and it saved me a ton of money. Plus, I learned a lot about watches in the process. Maybe I’ll try to remake another one someday. Who knows?
