PRADA Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag: Is the Remake Version of this Classic Style Worth Buying?

So, I’ve been wanting to remake that classic Prada Galleria Saffiano leather bag for a while now. You know, the medium-sized one? It’s just so timeless. I finally decided to just go for it.

First things first, I needed to get my hands on some Saffiano leather. I did a bit of digging around, and it turns out it’s basically just regular leather that’s been treated and stamped with that signature cross-hatch pattern. I managed to find a decent supplier who sold me a good-sized hide.

Then came the pattern. Luckily, I’m kind of a hoarder when it comes to patterns, and I already had something pretty similar in my stash. I did have to tweak it a bit to match the Prada bag’s dimensions and details, but nothing too crazy. Cutting out the leather was a bit nerve-wracking, I’m not gonna lie. This stuff isn’t cheap, and I really didn’t want to mess it up.

  • Getting the leather: This took some searching, but I found a good supplier.
  • Pattern adjustments: I had a similar pattern, but I needed to change it up a bit.
  • Cutting the leather: Definitely the scariest part! I was so afraid of making mistakes.

Next up, I had to put the whole thing together. I started with the main body of the bag, stitching the front, back, and side panels together. I used my trusty old sewing machine, and I used this thick, waxed thread to make sure the stitches were super strong and durable. Sewing the lining was also interesting, and I had to choose a similar color and texture material. After finishing the lining, I sewed it inside of the bag.

The handles were a bit of a challenge. I wanted them to be sturdy, so I used several layers of leather and stitched them together really tightly. Attaching them to the bag was also a bit tricky. I had to make sure they were perfectly aligned and reinforced, so they wouldn’t rip off with use. The metal accessories are tough ones, but I finally made it.

The Final Touches

After all the main pieces were assembled, it was time for the finishing touches. I added the little Prada logo, which I carefully cut out of some scrap leather. I know it is not the genuine one, but it looks really similar. It was a bit of a pain to get it perfectly, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. And added the zipper and a few other hardware pieces.

Honestly, the whole process took me way longer than I expected. But I learned a lot along the way, and I’m really proud of the finished product. It’s not exactly like the real Prada bag, but it’s pretty darn close. And it definitely has that same classic, elegant vibe. Plus, I made it myself, which makes it even more special, at least to me.
