Alright, so I’ve been eyeing this OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch for a while now, the one with the transparent case back. You know, the kind that lets you see all the cool stuff going on inside. I mean, who doesn’t want a piece of space history on their wrist, right?
First thing I did was hit up some forums and stuff. There was a post about one of his work colleagues owns an OMEGA Speedmaster Professional, and he is willing to sell it to the author, but there was no box or paperwork. Then someone was saying that if a MoonSwatch is a fake Moonwatch, then a Tudor Submariner is a fake Rolex Submariner. Since the Omega Swatch Speedmaster MoonSwatch is an official collaboration, there might be something tricky about it. I needed to be careful about that. And some news reported that Swiss luxury watchmaker Omega says it has been the victim of “organized criminal activity”. So there are probably lots of fake ones out there.
Anyway, after looking around for a bit, I realized buying a brand new one from an authorized dealer was way out of my budget. I mean, these things are expensive! So, I started looking at the used market. Found a few that looked decent, but I had to be careful. Lots of fakes out there, and I didn’t want to get ripped off.
I started asking around, talking to people who know more about watches than I do. Got some good advice on what to look out for, like checking the serial number, making sure the movement looks right, and all that jazz. I even watched some videos on YouTube to get a better idea of what a real one should look like.
Then, I stumbled upon this one listing online. The seller had good pictures, a decent price, and seemed legit. We chatted for a while, and I asked a bunch of questions. He answered everything, and even sent me some extra photos. Felt pretty good about it, so I decided to pull the trigger.
We met up in person, which is always a good idea when buying something like this. I brought a friend along who’s a bit of a watch nerd, just to be safe. We checked out the watch, and it looked even better in person than in the photos. Everything seemed to be in order, the movement was ticking away nicely, and the transparent case back was just as awesome as I’d imagined.
After a bit of haggling, we settled on a price, and I finally had my Moonwatch! I’ve been wearing it every day since, and I’m still totally stoked about it. It’s such a cool piece of history, and it’s just plain awesome to look at. Plus, I saved a ton of money by buying it used.
So, that’s my story of how I got my hands on an OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch with a transparent case back. It took some research, some patience, and a little bit of luck, but it was totally worth it in the end. Now when I buy watches I have my own experience on it.
