Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about this here Audemars Piguet, or whatever fancy name they call it. Sounds like somethin’ from them city folks, all highfalutin’ and such. But lemme break it down for ya, simple-like.
So, this fella, Jules-Louis Audemars, and another one, Edward-Auguste Piguet, they started this whole thing way back in 1875. That’s a long, long time ago, even before I was a twinkle in my pappy’s eye. They were in some place called Le Brassus, Switzerland. Sounds fancy, don’t it? Probably got lots of them mountains and such.
- They make watches, see? Not just any ol’ watches, mind you. These are the kind that rich folks wear, the ones that cost more than a good cow, I reckon. They call ’em “luxury” watches. Guess that means they ain’t for the likes of us.
- Now, they say this Audemars Piguet is special ’cause it’s still run by the same family after all these years. That’s somethin’, ain’t it? Most things don’t last that long these days. Families fight, businesses get sold, but these folks, they stickin’ together.
They made this one watch, a real tiny one you put on your wrist, and it was real thin. Somethin’ like 1.64 mm, whatever that means. Probably thinner than a pancake. And they got this other watch, a pocket watch, with all sorts of fancy things inside. A repeater, a calendar that never ends, a stopwatch… sounds like a whole lot of fuss to me. Just tell me the time, that’s all I need.
And this Jasmine lady, she was the head of the whole shebang until just last year. Great-granddaughter of that Jules-Louis fella. Imagine that! A woman runnin’ the show. Times are changin’, ain’t they?
They talk about this Robert Robin fella too, a French clockmaker from way back. Guess he had somethin’ to do with how these watches work. All them gears and springs, makes my head spin just thinkin’ about it.
People call these watches “AP” for short. Guess it’s easier than sayin’ that long name all the time. They got these collections, Royal Oak and such. Sounds like somethin’ for kings and queens. Not for folks like us who gotta work for a livin’.
They been makin’ these watches for more than a hundred years, they say. That’s a lot of tick-tocks. And they keep tryin’ to make ’em better, with new ideas and all. Fancy that.
Now, I ain’t no expert on these fancy watches, mind you. I just tell it like it is. But it seems like these Audemars Piguet folks know what they’re doin’. They been at it a long time, and people seem to like their watches. Even if they cost a pretty penny.
So there you have it. That’s all I know about this Audemars Piguet. Not much, I reckon, but enough to make you think. Maybe someday, one of us will have enough money to buy one of them fancy watches. But for now, I’ll stick with my ol’ clock on the wall. It tells the time just fine, and that’s all that matters to me.
