You know, those fancy watches, the ones they call “Audemars Piguet”? Yeah, them. I heard folks talking about when they started up. Some say it was way back in 1875. Two fellas, Audemars and Piguet, that’s their names. Over in Switzerland, in a place called Valle de Joux, or somethin’ like that. Le Brassus, they say too. Same place, maybe? Don’t rightly know.
Now, they say these watches, they’re mighty special. Only company still owned by the same family after all these years. 140 years, they say! Imagine that! My family, we can barely keep track of who borrowed the sugar, let alone run a business for that long.
The start date, that’s a bit fuzzy. Some say 1875, others say 1881 when they “officially” started. Makes my head spin, all these dates. But them watches, they sure are somethin’. Cost a pretty penny too, from what I hear.
- Folks in China, they like ’em too. Heard they made a special watch, just 88 of ’em, for China. Celebrate their “enduring history” with the place. Fancy words, huh?
Just opened a big shop in Shanghai, an “AP House” they call it. Qiantan Taikoo Li, wherever that is. Must be a fancy part of town. Bet them watches cost more there than a whole pig farm back home.
Prices in China? Don’t ask me! I ain’t got that kind of money. I’d rather spend it on somethin’ useful, like a new hen house or some good feed for the chickens. But them city folk, they like their shiny things. And Audemars Piguet, they sure are shiny.
So, when did they start? In Chinese date terms, I wouldn’t have a clue. They got their own calendar and all. But if you ask me, it don’t really matter. What matters is they make good watches, or so they say. And people buy ’em. That’s how business works, I reckon.
Heard they ain’t just watches either. Jewelry and such. For rich folks, I guess. Me, I’ll stick with my simple stuff. A good apron, that’s all the jewelry I need.
So, there you have it. Audemars Piguet. Fancy watches. Started a long time ago. Expensive in China, probably everywhere. That’s all I know. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go feed them chickens.
