Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about these fancy watches. Audemars Piguet, they say, started way back, long, long ago. Some fellas named Audemars and Piguet, they got together in some place in Switzerland, Le Brassus, I think it was called. Happened in 1875, a good while before I was even born. They made watches, you know, the kind with gears and springs and all that.
Then there’s this other one, Rolex. People talk about Rolex all the time. They say it’s real sturdy, a watch ya can rely on. Now, Audemars Piguet, they’re fancy, real fancy. They say they make ’em real good, with all sorts of special stuff. But Rolex, they ain’t too shabby neither. It’s like comparing apples and oranges, they say. One’s good for lookin’ pretty, the other’s good for wearin’ every day and not worryin’ too much about it gettin’ scratched.

Audemars Piguet, they made this one watch, called the Royal Oak. Took ’em a whole year to sell a thousand of ’em, can ya believe that? People didn’t know what to make of it, I reckon. But now, everyone wants one, or so they say. Don’t see many folks ’round here wearin’ them fancy watches, though.
They tell me Audemars Piguet, they don’t make too many watches each year. Somethin’ about keepin’ it special, keepin’ the quality up. Rolex, they probably make a whole bunch more. They’re everywhere, ain’t they? See ’em in the magazines, on the TV. Audemars Piguet, not so much. Guess that’s why they’re so pricey.
Then there’s this fella, Mr. Li, over in Hong Kong. He runs some fancy places to eat and drink. What’s he got to do with watches? I dunno. Maybe he wears one of them fancy watches, who knows? Folks with money, they like them fancy things.
This Audemars Piguet, they started in Switzerland, but now they’re everywhere. Even in China, they say. When did they start in China? That’s a good question. Don’t know the answer to that. Probably took ’em a while, I reckon. Can’t just waltz into a place and start sellin’ fancy watches, can ya?
So, which one’s better, Audemars Piguet or Rolex? Like I said, it’s hard to say. One’s fancy, the other’s sturdy. Depends on what you want, I suppose. Me? I just need a watch that tells the time, don’t need nothin’ fancy. But if you got the money, why not buy a fancy watch? Makes ya feel good, I bet.
In the end, a watch is a watch. It tells the time, that’s what it’s supposed to do. But some folks, they like the fancy ones. And that’s alright, I reckon. To each their own, that’s what I always say.
