Well, you wanna know about Audemars Piguet in the US, huh? Lemme tell ya what I know. It’s a fancy watch brand, they say. From Switzerland, not America. Started a long time ago, way back in 1875. Some fellas named Audemars and Piguet, that’s where the name comes from. Smart, ain’t it? Used their own names.
Now, they make these watches in a place called Le Brassus. Never been there, but I hear it’s real pretty, with valleys and all. They say the watches are real good, made with lots of care. Masterpieces, some folks call ’em. Probably takes ’em a long time to make one.
Audemars Piguet is still owned by the same families. Imagine that, holdin’ onto somethin’ for that long. They been makin’ watches in that same village since the beginning. That’s somethin’, right?
There’s this fella, Gerald Genta, he designed a famous watch for them. A sports watch, they say. Fancy lookin’, I bet. Probably costs a pretty penny too. But folks who like these things, they don’t mind spendin’.
Now, they started in Switzerland, but they sell these watches all over, even here in the US. Don’t know exactly when they came here, but it’s been a while. Gotta have money to buy one though, let me tell ya. Not for the likes of us regular folk.
- Started in Switzerland in 1875.
- Made in Le Brassus, a village in a valley.
- Still owned by the families who started it.
- A famous designer named Gerald Genta made a watch for them.
- They sell these fancy watches in the US too.
They got serial numbers on their watches, so you know when they were made. Starts with a letter, then numbers. Like a code. Handy if you wanna know how old your watch is. They put the number on a certificate too, or a card.
There’s this one watch they made, Royal Oak, it came out in 1972. Big deal, apparently. At a watch show in Switzerland. Everyone was worried about these quartz watches back then, but Audemars Piguet kept makin’ their fancy ones. Good for them, I say.
Now, some folks compare them to Rolex. Another fancy watch brand. Rolex is newer, but more famous, they say. Easier name to remember, maybe. But Audemars Piguet, they been around longer. That’s gotta count for somethin’.
So, that’s about all I know. Fancy watches, from Switzerland, sold in the US. Made by the same family for a long time. Cost a lot of money, but folks who like ’em, they love ’em. And that’s what matters, I guess.
