Well, lemme tell ya about this watch thing, Audemars Piguet, whatever they call it. Fancy name, right? Sounds like somethin’ from a foreign land, not like somethin’ you’d hear down at the local market.
So, this Audemars Piguet, they been makin’ watches for a long, long time. Started way back when, like in 1881. Don’t ask me what they were doin’ before that, probably milkin’ cows or somethin’. But anyways, they started makin’ watches, fancy ones too. Minute repeater wristwatch, they call it. Sounds complicated, like fixin’ a tractor engine.
- Started in 1881 – That’s a long time ago, folks. Longer than I’ve been alive, that’s for sure.
- Fancy watches – Not like the ones you get at the dollar store, lemme tell ya. These are special, with all sorts of buttons and dials.
And they didn’t just stick around their own backyard. Nope, they started sellin’ these watches all over the world. Went international, they say. Fancy folks in fancy places buyin’ these watches. Probably cost a pretty penny too.
Now, they say some of these watches, they get more valuable over time. Like a good piece of land, gets more worth with age. But not all of ’em, mind you. Gotta be special, gotta be rare. Like a four-leaf clover, hard to find.
They make ’em in Switzerland, that’s where all the fancy watch folks are. Must be somethin’ in the water over there, makin’ ’em good at this watch business. They got other big names too, Rolex, Patek… somethin’ or other. Sounds like a bunch of gibberish to me, but folks say they’re the best.
Audemars Piguet, they don’t make too many watches these days. Only 40,000 a year. That’s a lot for me, but I guess for them, it’s not so much. Keeps ’em special, I reckon. Like a limited edition plate you hang on the wall.
Now, the price, that’s where it gets tricky. Don’t ask me how much they cost, probably more than my old pickup truck. And they say the price changes over time, goes up and down like the stock market. Folks buy ’em and sell ’em, tryin’ to make a buck. Just like tradin’ chickens at the fair.
By today’s standards, they say, these watches are somethin’ special. Well, I reckon they must be, for folks to pay so much for ’em. But me, I’d rather have a good pair of work boots. More practical, you know?
So, that’s the story of Audemars Piguet, as best as I can tell it. Fancy watches from a fancy place, costin’ a fancy price. Maybe one day, I’ll win the lottery and get myself one. But ’til then, I’ll stick with my old wall clock.
