Ya know, that Audemars Piguet, it’s a fancy name, ain’t it? Started way back, them two fellas, Audemars and Piguet, they got together. In 1881, they started their thing, over in Switzerland. A place called Le Brassus, up in some mountains.
Them watches, they’re all fancy and stuff. Real expensive, I hear. Made with all them gears and springs inside. They say it’s real hard work makin’ ’em. Takes lots of time, you know. Ain’t no rush jobs with them watches.
- 1881 – That’s when it all started, them fellas in Switzerland.
- Le Brassus, Switzerland – That’s where they make ’em.
I reckon them watches are real popular with the rich folk. You know, the ones with all the money. They like fancy things, showin’ off and all. Me, I don’t need no fancy watch. Just need somethin’ that tells the time, so I know when to feed the chickens and get the chores done.
They don’t make too many of them watches, neither. Only about 40,000 a year, I heard someone say. Guess that’s why they cost so much. Limited edition, they call it. Like them fancy plates my niece collects, all painted with flowers. She says they’re valuable, but they just collect dust if you ask me.
Every watch got a number on it, somethin’ to tell it apart. Letters and numbers, they mix ’em up. Like a secret code, I suppose. You can tell when it was made, just by lookin’ at them letters, they say. Pretty clever, them watchmakers.
Audemars Piguet, they got all sorts of watches. Royal Oak, they call one of ’em. Sounds like a tree, don’t it? Probably got fancy designs, all swirls and such. Not like my old clock on the wall, just plain numbers and tickin’ hands.
It’s amazin’ to think about all the work that goes into makin’ them watches. Tiny little parts, all put together just right. And they gotta be precise, you know, gotta keep the time right. Can’t be runnin’ fast or slow, or else you’ll be late for everything.
I heard tell they made the first wristwatch that could chime the minutes way back in 1892. Imagine that! A tiny little watch, makin’ sounds. Must have been somethin’ special back then. Now we got phones that do all sorts of things, but back then, a chimin’ watch was a big deal.
Switzerland, that’s where they make all sorts of fancy things, ain’t it? Watches, chocolates, cheese with holes in it. They must know what they’re doin’, over there in them mountains. Keepin’ busy, makin’ things for the world.
Audemars Piguet, it’s a name you remember. Even if you can’t afford one of them fancy watches, you know they’re somethin’ special. A piece of history, they say. Somethin’ made with care, by folks who know their craft. And that’s somethin’ to admire, I reckon.
