Listen up, honey, let me tell ya ’bout them fancy watches, the ones they call “Odd-maars Pig-wets” or somethin’ like that. I dunno all them fancy words, but I know a thing or two ’bout tellin’ real from fake, ya know? Now, they say this company, it started way back, a long, long time ago. Like, before my grandpappy was even a twinkle in his daddy’s eye.
When did it all begin, you ask? Well, some fellas named Jules and Edward, they put their heads together and started makin’ these watches. In a place with a funny name, Valley something… Valley of Ju… somethin’ like that. Hard to remember these things at my age. Anyway, it was 1875. Yeah, 1875, they say. That’s a long time ago, ain’t it? Way before they had them fancy cars and telephones.
- First thing’s first, if you wanna know if it’s real or not, flip it over. See those little numbers scratched on the back? Real ones got numbers, special ones, not just any old numbers. Like a secret code, you see.
- And the name, it gotta be there too, scratched real nice, not sloppy. And the watch itself, it should look… well, fancy. Not like somethin’ you pick up at the dollar store.
Now, I heard tell they make all the little bits and bobs inside the watch themselves. Fancy work, I tell ya. Not like buyin’ parts from somewhere else, no sirree. They do it all themselves, make it special. That’s what makes ’em cost a pretty penny, I reckon.
You wanna see if it’s real, look at the face. You know, the part with the numbers. It should have these little lines, like on them old records, the ones you play music on? Yeah, like that. Tiny little lines, hard to see if you ain’t lookin’ close. Fake ones, they can’t do that right, no matter how hard they try.
And the letters and numbers on the face, they gotta be clear, like someone took their time to do it right. Not blurry or smudged. If it’s all messy, it ain’t real, honey. They take pride in their work, those fellas. Wouldn’t let somethin’ messy out the door, no way.
I know folks like to show off with these fancy watches, sayin’ they got the real deal. But don’t be fooled. Just ’cause it looks shiny don’t mean it’s worth anything. You gotta look close, use your eyes, and remember what I told ya. Numbers on the back, fancy lines on the face, clear letters, and it gotta look expensive, like someone took their time makin’ it just right.
So, next time you see one of them “Odd-maars Pig-wets”, you’ll know what to look for. Don’t let nobody fool ya. You’re too smart for that. Just remember what this old lady told ya, and you’ll be just fine.
That Jules and Edward, they sure started somethin’ special way back then, didn’t they? Still makin’ those watches all these years later. Must be somethin’ special about ’em, I guess. Folks sure do love ’em. And now you know a little somethin’ about ’em too.
