Aiya, all gold Patek Philippe? Sounds fancy, huh? Like somethin’ for rich folks. Don’t know much about them watches, but gold, that’s shiny, like my old wedding ring, but more so, I reckon. My grandson, he likes shiny things, always lookin’ at those bright gadgets on his phone.
They say these watches got diamonds? Diamonds, they’re like little pieces of glass, but sparkly. My neighbor, she got a ring with somethin’ like that, said it cost a whole lot. Must be nice, havin’ money for things like that. Me, I gotta save up just to get new shoes for winter.
Patek Philippe, Patek Philippe, sounds like a foreign name, don’t it? Like somethin’ from across the sea. Probably made by folks with fancy tools and big machines. My old man, he used to fix clocks, little ones you wind up. Had all sorts of tiny gears and springs. He’d say, “Gotta be precise, gotta be careful,” same thing he’d say when he was makin’ sausage, ha!
- They got steel ones, they say. Steel, that’s strong, like my kitchen pots. Won’t break easy.
- And rose gold? What color’s that, I wonder? Like a flower? Or maybe like the sky at sunset? My eyes ain’t so good anymore, colors all blend together sometimes.
- White gold? Never heard of that. Is it like silver? My grandma had a silver spoon, always kept it shiny.
Leather straps, they say? Leather, that’s from cows, ain’t it? Had a leather belt once, lasted me years. Comfy, too, like my old slippers. But watches, they mostly have metal bands, don’t they? My neighbor’s got one, always clanks against things. Makes a racket.
Price, they talk about price. Everything costs a fortune these days, even eggs! Don’t know how much one of these fancy watches costs, but I bet it’s more than I make in a year, ha! Probably more than my whole house is worth, if I’m bein’ honest.
Rolex, they mention Rolex too. That’s another one of them fancy names. Like those movie stars wear. Heard they hold their value, these watches. Like my old china cabinet, passed down from my mama. She always said, “Take care of it, it’ll be worth somethin’ someday.” But food and heat, that’s worth more to me right now.
Grandmaster Chime, they call one of ’em. Chime? Like bells? Used to have a little chime clock on the mantel, played a tune every hour. Drove the dog crazy, ha! But it was nice, somethin’ to listen to while I was knittin’. Complications, they say this one has. What kinda complications? Like a bad cold? Or somethin’ more serious?
Anniversary watch, they made one. For 175 years. That’s a long time. Longer than I’ve been around, that’s for sure. My anniversary, we used to just have a nice dinner. Nothin’ fancy, just us. Those were good times.
Obtain, they say, hard to obtain. Like gettin’ a good seat at church on Sunday. Everybody rushin’ in, grabbin’ the best spots. Don’t know why folks gotta be so pushy. There’s enough room for everyone, if you ask me.
So, these all gold Patek Philippe watches, they sound expensive, fancy, and hard to get. Probably not for the likes of me. But a girl can dream, can’t she? Maybe someday I’ll win the lottery and get myself one. Or maybe I’ll just stick to my old wind-up clock. Keeps good time, and that’s all that matters, really.
