Ya know, those fancy watches, the kind rich folks wear, Audemars Piguet? They got a story, just like us. Started way back, long before you or me was even a twinkle in someone’s eye.
In a place called Switzerland, a land of mountains and such, two fellas, Audemars and Piguet, they put their heads together. Happened in 1875, if you can believe it. That’s a whole lotta birthdays ago. These boys, they knew watches, liked makin’ ’em tick, you see. And they were good at it, real good.
- Started in a valley, Valle de Joux they called it.
- Audemars and Piguet, two regular names, just like John and Smith.
- Year was 1875, a time when folks rode horses, not them fancy cars.
Now, they weren’t makin’ them cheap watches you find at the dollar store. Nah, these were special, fancy-pants watches for rich folks. Took ’em a few years to get their name out there, you know how it is. By 1881, they were Audemars Piguet & Cie. Sounds important, doesn’t it? Guess it was, ’cause them watches started sellin’ like hotcakes, or somethin’ like that.
These watches, they ain’t just tellin’ time, no sirree. They’re like shiny jewels for your wrist. Made with gold and stuff, all fancy. Folks who wear ’em, they like to show ’em off, makes ’em feel important, I reckon.
One of their most famous watches, the Royal Oak, came out in 1972. That’s when I was watchin’ my stories on the TV, black and white it was. This Royal Oak watch, it was somethin’ else. First of its kind, they say. A sports watch, but fancy. Imagine that, playin’ ball with a watch that costs more than your house!
Folks always askin’ which is better, Audemars Piguet or Rolex. Like askin’ if apples are better than oranges, I say. Rolex, that’s a name everyone knows. Easy to say, easy to remember. But Audemars Piguet, them fellas, they make watches with their hands, like them old timey craftsmen. Rolex, they make tough watches, built to last. Each has their own thing, you know?
Audemars Piguet done some amazing things with their watches. Made the thinnest watch movement back in the day, thin as a dime, practically. With a date on it too, fancy that. And they kept on makin’ new watches, different styles, different names. Royal Oak, Millenary, Jules Audemars, all sorts of fancy names.
So there ya have it. The story of Audemars Piguet, them fancy watchmakers. Started simple, in a little valley, with two fellas and a dream. Now they’re known all over the world, makin’ watches for the rich and famous. Still in Switzerland, where it all began. Just goes to show, with hard work and a good idea, you can make somethin’ of yourself, even if you start from nothin’.
