Ya know, talkin’ ’bout when them Audemars Piguet fellas started their thing. Was a long, long time ago, back when my grandpa was just a wee little sprout. These two fellas, Audemars and Piguet, they got together. Young’uns they was, prob’ly didn’t know what they was gettin’ into.
Heard tell it was somethin’ like 1875. In them days, wasn’t no fancy calendars like we got now. Folks just went by the seasons, ya know? Plantin’ time, harvest time. Don’t rightly know what the Chinese date was, but reckon some smartypants figgered it out.
Anyway, them two fellas, they started makin’ watches. Fancy ones, I reckon, for folks with deep pockets. Not like the watch I got from the five-and-dime! Heard they was in a place called the Valle de Joux. Sounded like a mouthful, that did.
Took ’em a while to get goin’ proper, though. Didn’t make it official ’til 1881, they say. Called it Audemars Piguet & Cie. Probably had some fancy lawyer fella write it up, all proper and legal-like. Set up shop in a place called Le Brassus. Bet it was a tiny little place back then, not like the cities you see on the telly.

Now, ’bout them prices. Boy howdy, they was somethin’ else! Heard tell one watch they made, called the Royal Oak, cost a pretty penny. So much, you coulda bought a whole mess of them Rolex watches instead. Ten of ’em, I heard! Imagine that!
Course, I wouldn’t know nothin’ ’bout buyin’ such fancy things. Got bills to pay, food to put on the table. But some folks got money to burn, I reckon. And if they wanna spend it on a fancy watch, well, that’s their business.
These days, them Audemars Piguet watches still cost a fortune. Heard they start at somethin’ like twenty thousand dollars! That’s more money than I’ll ever see in my whole life. But I guess if you got it, you flaunt it.
Folks say them watches is special ’cause they’re made all fancy-like. Lots of tiny parts, put together just so. Takes a real skilled person to do that, I reckon. Not like me, fumbling around with my buttons!
And they say they’re made in Switzerland, that place with all the mountains. Heard it’s real pretty over there. Guess that’s why them watches cost so much, eh? Comes from a fancy place.
Anyways, that’s all I know ’bout them Audemars Piguet watches and when they started. Just a bunch of dates and prices, really. Don’t mean much to an old gal like me. But some folks care about that kinda stuff, so there ya go.
