Atlus USA has just revealed the English voice cast for the main characters (aka The Phantom Thieves) in the latest instalment of the Shin Megami Tensei: Persona series, Persona 5.
Announced via IGN, the main cast of Persona 5 is as follows:
- Xander Mobus as The Protagonist
- Cassandra Lee Morris as Morgana
- Max Mittelman as Ryuji Sakamoto
- Erika Harlacher as Ann Takamaki
- Matthew Mercer as Yusuke Kitagawa
- Cherami Leigh as Makoto Niijima
- Erica Lindbeck as Futaba Sakura
- Xanthe Huynh as Haru Okumura
- Robbie Daymond as Goro Akechi
The dub is recorded at PCB Productions under the direction of Valerie Arem, the same studio and director behind the previous Persona games and their spinoffs.
This cast is almost completely new to the Persona franchise, with the exception of Matthew Mercer and Cassandra Lee Morris. Mercer had officially taken over the role of Kanji Tatsumi of Persona 4 from Troy Baker. Voicing him in episodes 13-26 of the anime adaptation’s dub as well as the recent spin-off games.
While Morris provided the voice of anime only character Aika Nakamura in Persona 4’s adaptation as well. Also teasing her role as Morgana when her voice for the character was previewed at the Persona 5’s E3 2016 presentation, with her sending out an ambiguous tweet alluding to it.
Atlus has stated that the dub “is being supervised by the long-time Persona series project lead in the Americas, Yu Namba.” In a statement, Namba said,
This is a completely new cast of characters, so we started with a blank slate in bringing life to them with our stellar cast of voice actors. It’s hard saying goodbye to the cast of previous Persona games, but we hope to bring an entirely new tone with a new set of actors for this game.
The Protagonist’s English voice is previewed in the newly released trailer below:
Alongside an interview with Xander Mobus himself, discussing the role. In addition, each English cast member will be featured in more trailers and interviews. Releasing in the months until the game’s release.
