The light novel turned anime Overlord is getting an animated movie!
Following a tease for a big announcement coming with the release of the Overlord light novel’s 11th volume, said announcement (revealed on the wraparound jacket band) was revealed to be for an animated film.
Details on the movie are scarce right now such as a release date. The film’s plot line is also unknown, with the possibilities that it could be an original story, a recap or an adaptation of a light novel arc.
The original 13 episode anime adaptation aired in the Summer 2015 anime season. The series follows Momonga, the remaining member of the Guild of Ainz Ooal Gown. Who was part of the DMMORPG (Dive Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) called Yggdrasil. After a 12 year run, Yggdrasil is closing its servers down and Momnonga decides to stay in the game alone until that happens.
However when Momonga finds himself still inside the game without the ability to log out and the NPCs around him displaying real personality traits. He decides to make himself a legend in-game in the hopes of finding his old guildmates. Trying to solve the mystery while also taking the game world over for himself.
The series is licensed in North America by Funimation. They announced the English dub cast and DVD/Blu-ray release date of November 8, 2016 at their Otakon 2016 panel.
