This is going to be a more personal post than normal on this site, so be warned!

It’s currently June 2nd, 2017, which means it’s been one year since the Fighting for Nippon website has opened. The site has been through many revisions (less the look, more the content style), and it’s been hard to pinpoint what direction I’ve been wanting the site to go in. Do I want it to just be an outlet for my musings? Do I want a professional news site? Episode reviews? This indecision makes it hard for not only me but the group of writers on this site that make some great content.

The first post on the site

I initially pitched Fighting for Nippon as a counter to something like Anime News Network, where we’d have a more in-depth news site with personality. That didn’t work. Not only was it hard to keep up, even though we broke some news stories before others, but it didn’t turn out exactly like I envisioned for the site. A perfect example of what I wanted was my Keijo post a month back, but that type of content is hard to keep up without a big team running 150% 24/7, which isn’t fair for a volunteer run site. The views were good, but I wasn’t happy with just focusing on news and less informative posts. If you wanted news, you’d go to a news site. I wanted people to come to Fighting for Nippon to learn.

One of the best things I’ve seen over the last year is that there is A LOT of great anime related blogs out there. From Yatta-Tachi, Wave Motion Cannon, Sakuga Blog and even the editorials from Anime News Network and Crunchyroll. Reading these site have helped me build on what I know, how to write, and where I want Fighting for Nippon to fit into this fold. There’s still a long way to go to get Fighting for Nippon to become as recognised as the above sites, but I have no doubt we’ll get there one day.

The actually first piece of content on the site … idols are still great

I am proud of what we’ve done on Fighting for Nippon over the last year, proud of the writers who applied in those first weeks and are still with the site, and proud of everyone we picked up along the way. Without you, this site would be nothing.

Moving forward, Fighting for Nippon is currently in editorial-only mode

Any news that the writers want to discuss will come with either; informative information to supplement the news, more information than what other sites give, or as a comment on the news and it’s greater impact on the industry, community, etc. We’re always looking for new writers to pitch to Fighting for Nippon for more content like this. If you’re interested, go over to our “Want to write for us?” page for more details. We can’t wait to hear from you!

If you’d like to support the site (and YouTube videos, but that’s currently only me doing those separately), you can do so over on Patreon. One goal I’d like to reach soon is for a podcast to start up, so hopefully, we’ll get there during the US summer! After that, I’d love to be able to pay writers for editorials.

Or if you just wanna hang, you can do so over on our Discord server. Please do, we’re lonely.

And most of all, I wanna thank you, the readers, who share and enjoy the site. You are what gives us strength.

Until next time,
Mate ne~

  1. And what a great year it’s been! (at least in the context of working for the site), seriously though I’m so happy to be able to write along side so many great people.

  2. Yeah, Thanks Dazza for this opportunity! It really helped get a handle on my writing, while talking about something I was passionate about! I felt bad I wasn’t writing as much as the others, but did my best to not fade out! Heres to another year!
