After being leaked by the Japanese Red Cross months ago, we finally have the first trailer for Sound! Euphonium, introducing us to new characters and showcasing new animation!
Sound! Euphonium Season 2, directed by Naoko Yamada and Tetsuya Ishihara at Kyoto Animation, focuses on the Kitauji High School Music Club, and their rise to become the best high school band after getting a new instructor. It continues the story that Season 1, and the film re-telling, started back in the Fall 2015 anime season.
New Sound! Euphonium Characters!
The new trailer introduces us to the new characters of Kasaki Nozomi, and Yoroizuka Mizore in a very jazz-inspired way! I’m not exactly sure what the new characters have in store for us, but I hope they don’t get in the way of the Kumiko/Reina ship. That’d be very depressing, especially after all the character development they had during the first season.
The trailer, at least to me, screams Baccano! and seems to be inspired by Jazz. The trailer uses Jazz music in the background, which is odd considering the show focuses around classical music, but uses an English narration instead of a Japanese one. Which is hilarious, by the way. If the trailer wasn’t from the official Kyoto Animation YouTube channel, I would have thought this was a fan made trailer for the second season. Not that I’m complaining at all, it’s great to see a trailer as fun as this!
What awaits them? Heaven, or hell?
Sound! Euphonium sung it’s way into our lives last April and solidified the fact that Kyoto Animation, with some of the best directors and key animators in anime, are the best at character animation, with Naoko Yamada at the fore-front of that. Hopefully season 2 increases the growing bar that Kyoto Animation sets, and isn’t set back by Yamada being busy with her direction of A Silent Voice.
