Fans of Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shita (all 10 of us) will be happy to know that the franchise is coming back after 4 years for a new feature film! The film is set to open on January 6th 2018, and tickets go on sale next month.
Returning Chunnibyou Staff
The film is titled Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shita – Take on Me –. Sadly, I don’t believe it’s named after the song. The staff for the film is mostly the same as the staff for the TV show. Tatsuya Ishihara is returning to direct the film at Kyoto Animation. Jukki Hanada returns to write the script and Kazumi Ikeda is back on character designs. Interestingly, the director of photography has been changed (though Rin Yamamoto is credited with 3D direction). The new director of photography will be Akihiro Ura, who most recently worked on Miss Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid. The Japanese voice cast for the series is all set to return as well. Tarako is credited as the creator, though that doesn’t mean he wrote the film.
As for the story…
The story of Chuunibyou – Take on Me –
“It appears the series is set to end with a bang! Yuuta, Rikka and company are now third years in high school. College entrance exams are coming up and Rikka’s the same as ever. Toka is moving to Italy and wants to take Rikka with her, though the two don’t want to be apart. Yuuta and Rikka’s friends suggest they elope. Japan becomes the stage for their escape drama!”
A short PV has also been released, mostly spotlighting a key visual. Personally, the story sounds very exciting and perfect for a film to end the franchise. Just reading it makes me want to rewatch the original series. As for if we’ll get to see the film in theatres outside of Japan… well it’s TBS licensed so don’t hold your breath unless you live in the UK. While some might be disappointed by this announcement, at least us Chuuni have something to look forward to next year.
